Usageof Singular and Plural (Ekavachana and bahuvachana) in kannada language


Here you will be learning the usage of singular and plural words(Ekavachana and Bahuvachana) in kannada language. 

Singular(Ekvachana): is a form used to refer single(one) object 
Plural(bahuvachana): is a form used to refer two are more objects or people 

Mara(singular)-Maragalu(plural)
for any non human things galu will be added to the noun to make it plural.
when one tree is there it will be said as mara in kannada, and when there will be more than one tree galu will be added to mara to make it plural.

so Tree's=Mara+galu= Maragalu

Pustaka(book)=Pustaka+galu=Pustakagalu(books)

kaaru(car)- kaarugalu(cars) 

baashe(language)-baashegalu(languages)

Nayi(dog)-Nayigalu(dogs)

koti(monkey)-kotigalu(monkies)



Usage of plural words in kannada sentence: 

Rama bought book- Rama pustakavannu tanhdanu
Rama bought books- Rama pustakagalannu(pustaka+galannu) thandhanu

Shiva will open the door- Shiva bagilannu thereyutthane
Shiva will open the doors- Shiva baagilugalannu(baagilu+galannu) thereyutthaane

Book is there-book ide
Books are there-books ive

Leg is paining- Kaalu  noyuthhidhe
Legs are paining- Kaalugalu Noyutthive.



 The above rule will be applied for everything including animals, birds, insects.....but Exept Human beings. There are different word formats for humanbeings in case of plural translation.

Huduga(boy)(singular)- Hudugaru(boys)(plural)
hudugi(girl)- Hudugiyaru(girls)
Gandasu(man)-Gandasaru(men)
Hengasu(lady)-hengasaru(ladies)
magu(child)-makkalu(children)
Singer(gaayaka)-Singers(gaayakaru)
avanu(he)- Avaru(they) 
Avalu(she)-avaru(they)
When used in sentences
boys are playing- hudugaru atavadutthiddaare.
children came- makkalu bhandharu

I invited two ladies- nanu ibbaru hengasarannu aahvanisiddene.

call the children- makkalannu kareyiri
