Insufficient intravascular volume of blood.
Caused by dilation of blood vessels which diminishes the systemic vascular resistance.
· Septic shock
· Anaphylactic shock
· Neurogenic shock
Caused by systemic infection and inflammation.
Extensive release of chemical mediators and endotoxins causes dilation of blood vessels and loss of fluid into the interstitial space.
· Systemic vasodilation
· Warm and sweaty skin
· Reduced contractility of heart
· Diffuse capillary damage in the lungs
· Increased level of neutrophils
Management: Antibiotics, mechanical ventilation and supportive care.
