CARE OF LINEN
Following points must be considered
for care of linen in hospitals.
·
Care of linen should be taken to
prevent staining.
·
The nature of fabric itself as well
as the character of the staining agent, must be determined before the material
is submitted to any procedure for stain removal.
·
Almost all the materials used for
stain removal may be classified as solvents, bleaches and absorbents
·
The solvents are used to remove
stains made by tar, oil, grease, wax, gum, paints chocolate etc.(E.g gasoline
with benzene, toluene and xylene). These are expensive and highly inflammable
and therefore dangerous to use
·
Water is also a solvent and can be
used to remove stains on a large number of fabrics. It is the safest solvent
for unknown dirt or stains.
·
Bleaches are oxidizing agents and
must be used carefully as they remove color
and weaken the fabric of the material.
·
The absorbents such as chalk,
magnesium carbonate, corn meal etc when spread on the stained fabric will often
absorb the stain
