MUSIC THERAPY
It is the systematic application of music, as directed by
the music therapist in a therapeutic environment to bring about desirable
changes in behavior. Music can be used to improve physical coordination,
concentration skills, fine motor movement, socialization skills and improve
quality of life. It mainly decrease anxiety, stress, and prevents depression.
Goal

respiratory rate and blood pressure
Mechanism

It stimulates peptides, endorphins and natural
opiates secreted by the hypothalamus that produces pleasurable feeling and
reduces the unwanted stimuli

Music rhythm decreases the sympathetic nervous
system activities which leads to relaxation response

Low pitch music decrease tension
·
Therefore music with slow, steady relaxing
rhythm and low pitch orchestral effects would be appropriate for the patients
